  8.     This is just a quick document to get you going with the program. Full
  9. documentation will be coming later on but, the program is fairly straight
  10. foward to use and contains help buttons within the program. So without
  11. further ado, exit this file and try out the program...

  13.     Okay, since your reading this I guess you want some more information
  14. before you try out the program so here goes a short explaination of how to
  15. get going with the program.

  21. SETUP: HotKey - Control C
  22. -------------------------
  23.  
  24. Set-Up is where you should first go when the program is run
  25. for the first time. Here you define the external programs
  26. used by FilesBBS Manager and pertinent details related to
  27. your system. Here is a brief explaination of the options
  28. available.
  29.  
  30.   >*< Define Externals >*<
  31.  
  32. ZIP, ZOO, ARC, LZH are easily definable - just select the
  33. appropriate button and then use the file selector to obtain
  34. the complete path w/filename of each archive program.
  35.  
  36. ARJ is alittle different as it as 2 different programs that
  37. area required one to extract UNARJ.TTP and one to pack
  38. ARJBETA.TTP. FBM only supports versions of ARJ 9.94 or
  39. above.

  41. ARCHIVER - Here you define the external program that you
  42.            wish to use as your archive shell program of
  43.            choice, like TWOINONE.PRG...
  44.  
  45. TEXT EDITOR - same as above just select the text editor
  46.               that you want to utilize.

  48. MAF.TTP - This option is only available if you are using
  49.           the OCTOPUS BBS option in File Area Options.
  50.           Defining MAF.TTP will enable FBM to automatically
  51.           update your BBS by running MAF at exit if you had
  52.           made any changes to your file areas...

  55.  >*< Pick Description Length >*<

  57. You have three options for description length, 256
  58. characters, 400 characters, or extended descriptions.
  59. Octopus BBS supports this format, I'm not sure if any
  60. others support extended descriptions. Please Note that if
  61. you select extended descriptions your FILES.BBS file will
  62. be saved differently.
  63. EXAMPLE:

  65. FBM_069.ZIP  [1] FilesBBS Manager v0.69
  66.              +FilesBBS File Management System. Removed
  67.              +restrictions emplaced on unregistered versions
  68.              +of FBM and added a logo at exit that will
  69.              +cause a 10 second delay encouraging you to
  70.              +register.  Read FBM_UPDT.TXT for more info!!!

  75. QUICKBBS - Selecting this option will bring up the file
  76.            selector for you to select the path and file to
  77.            FLSEARCH.CTL file. This file will then be
  78.            utilized for defining your different file areas.

  80. OCTOPUS  - Selecting this option will bring up the file
  81.            selector for you to select the path and file to
  82.            OCTOPUS.CFG and CD-ROM files will be read in
  83.            also. This file will then be utilized for
  84.            defining your different file areas.

  86. ALT CFG  - Selecting FBM's Config file will allow you to
  87.            define your own file areas. When this option is
  88.            selected a list of the already connected areas
  89.            will be displayed from here you can - DELETE,
  90.            ADD, or CHANGE the entries. Double click of the
  91.            mouse will also auto select CHANGE. When adding
  92.            or Changing an area paths are entered by double
  93.            clicking on the line or by typing in the path.
  94.            Also, if you define a CD-ROM area you must have
  95.            an entry in the FilesBBS path & and CD-ROM path
  96.            in order for the program to work. If you select
  97.            one of the 3 available Links - what this means
  98.            is that you are linking the files located in
  99.            this path to the FilesBBS path... Once you have
  100.            completed any changes and select Okay before
  101.            returning to the Set-Up form you will be asked
  102.            if you want to save any changes made...

  104. BRACKETS - Here you have the oporutinity to utilize a
  105.            different bracket format than the standard [] to
  106.            surround your download counters. Just select the
  107.            type you desire...

  110. LOAD FILESBBS: HotKey - Control L

  113. Here is the heart of the program and where most of the
  114. changes to your FILES.BBS areas will be made. Now a
  115. breakdown of the options available:
  116.  
  117. Once Load FilesBBS is selected a list of the available
  118. areas will be display, use your mouse to scroll through the
  119. available areas. To make a selection Double click or
  120. highlight and select Load to load the FilesBBS file.
  121. Display Type can be changed from titles to paths by
  122. selecting the button...

  127. FILENAME - You can change the filename of a file by clicking
  128.            on filename or by entering ALT E. Then just type
  129.            in the new name you desire and it will be changed
  130.            for you as long as the filename you are changing
  131.            it to doesn't exist.

  133. LIST FILES - ALT L, this option brings up a list of files
  134.            with short descriptions (1 line per file) for
  135.            you to scroll through, selections are made by
  136.            double clicking on a line...

  140. Move Foward 1  - Alt F
  141. Move Foward 10 - Alt G
  142. Move Back 1    - Alt B
  143. Move Back 10   - Alt V
  144. Jump To Record - Click on number will allow you to enter a
  145.                  number to jump to...

  150. COPY - ALT C, Selecting this option will copy the currently
  151.        displayed file to another area. Just double click on
  152.        the destination area.

  154. MOVE - ALT M, Selecting this option will move the currently
  155.        displayed file to another area. Just double click on
  156.        the destination area and it will be moved.
  157.  
  158. DELETE - This will delete the currently displayed file...

  160. TOUCH - This will update the currently displayed files time
  161.         stamp...
  162.  
  163. UPLOAD - Selecting this option will allow you to upload
  164.          files to this area.

  167.  >*< Archive Options - (PopUp Menu) >*<

  169. LIST - This option will list the displays files contents,
  170.        extension doesn't matter - the header will be read
  171.        to determine the archive type.
  172.  
  173. DIZ/UPL - This option will search the complete archive
  174.           searching for either a FILE_ID.DIZ or *.UPL file
  175.           to get a description. If found you will be
  176.           presented with the description in a edit field so
  177.           that you can modify it before either using this
  178.           description or the old one...
  179.  
  180. MAKEDIZ - This option will make a FILE_ID.DIZ file for the
  181.           current archive based on the displayed
  182.           description.

  184. CONVERT - Selecting this option will allow you to convert
  185.           the current archive or text file to ZIP, ZOO,
  186.           ARJ, ARC, or LZH. You will also have the option
  187.           at this time to make a FILE_ID.DIZ file to
  188.           include within the archive.

  192. FILE - ALT F, selecting this option will allow you to enter
  193.        a search mask to look for a file in the current area
  194.        or all available areas.

  196. DESC - ALT D, selecting this option will allow you to enter
  197.        a search mask to look for a description in the
  198.        current area or all available areas.

  203. Here is were you can edit the discription for this file.
  204. You can scroll through the description by either using the
  205. ALT U or ALT D keys or clicking on the arrows.
  206.  
  207. REFORMAT - ALT M, Selecting this option will reformat the
  208.            displayed description. This is really only
  209.            usefull when using extended descriptions as the
  210.            record is saved in the exact same format as it's
  211.            displayed.

  213. LOAD NEXT - ALT N, Selecting this option will Load the next
  214.             FilesBBS record, if the current FilesBBS was
  215.             altered you will be prompted to save it before
  216.             continuing...

  219.  >*< SAVE RECORD >*<

  221. Anytime you either exit or select another area or option
  222. that changes to a another FILES.BBS area and the current
  223. FILES.BBS was changed you will be prompted to save it.

  228. Sort FilesBBS - ALT S, selecting this option will allow you
  229.                 to either select one path to sort or all
  230.                 paths in alphabetical order.
  231.  
  232. Find Missing Files - ALT F, selecting this option will
  233.                      allow you to either select one path or
  234.                      all paths to search for missing files.
  235.                      If any missing files are found they
  236.                      will be added automatically to the
  237.                      FILES.BBS record with a description
  238.                      name of FBMDESC. You can then use
  239.                      search description within the main
  240.                      editor to find all the files that were
  241.                      added. Prior to exiting you will be
  242.                      prompted if any files were added.

  244. Find Missing Desc  - ALT D, selecting this option works
  245.                      very simular to Find Missing Files.
  246.                      All missing descriptions will have the
  247.                      description FBMDESC that you can
  248.                      easily search for.

  253. Text Editor - Control T, executes the Text Editor that you
  254.               have defined in setup.
  255.  
  256. Archiver - Control A, executes the Archive Program that you
  257.            have defined in setup.
  258.  
  259. Execute Program - Control X, will bring up a file selector
  260.                   for you to select a program to execute.
  261.                   If the program is a .TTP or .GTP program
  262.                   you will be presented with a command line
  263.                   to enter any text you want passed to the
  264.                   program...

  266. QUIT - Control Q, Selecting Quit exits the program, if you
  267.        are running Octopus and any records were modified
  268.        MAF.TTP will be run automatically for you and your
  269.        file records updated...

  273.     Now for the bad news that everyone hates to hear. FilesBBS Manager is
  274. ShareWare and what that means to you the user is that you are free to use
  275. the program in it's current configuration as long as you desire. Only
  276. problem with that is that un-registered versions limit you to 3 uploads per
  277. session & 3 saves of your files.bbs per session. You can obtain a demo key
  278. to try out the program for 30 days to see if you like it or not. After that
  279. time if you decide to register the program you will be required to pay
  280. either $15 or £10 depending on where you register the program at. For more
